The Jim and Cheryl Caldwell Foundation proudly announced the opening of their first Project Phoenix Learning Center at The Hawthorne Community Center located at 2440 W. Ohio St, Indianapolis, Indiana in October 2010.  The ceremonial ribbon cutting was held on Friday, October 15, 2010. 

Jim, the then head coach of the Indianapolis Colts was the keynote speaker. He spoke on “Bridging Schools and Communities with 21st Century Technology” and highlighted their foundation’s initiative to purchase Promethean ActivBoards, along with laptops, desktops and specialized inter active instructional software and installing these in community centers across the US.

The Caldwells believe that putting their Project Phoenix Learning Center into The Hawthorne Community Center will give young people an opportunity to truly prosper and help close the achievement gap by providing 21st century learning tools.

The Hawthorne Community Center service 100 students before and after school.  During the summer the center serves 200 boys and girls.  The Project Phoenix Learning Center will have:

  • 20 Computers
  • 1 Teacher station
  • Network Printer
  • Scanner
  • Promethean “ActivBoard”
  • Promethean Learner Response Systems “ActivExpression”
  • Educational Software-eChalk, BrainPop, Tabula Digita, Microsoft Office Suite
